In His Love

In Your presence I delight
In Your warmth I could not deny
Your wonderful embrace
Your marvelous love
In Your presence nothing else matters

The pain will not stay for long
The wounds will not stay unhealed
Healed by Your strips
Made whole by Your love
In Your love nothing else matters

Remember Him in the sun
Remember Him in the rain
Remember Him, for He loves
Remember Him, our Lord Jesus

The Ship

Once there was a girl, who was afloat in the sea. There was nothing around her except some other people who were also afloat in the sea. She didnt know that the sea would be dangerous; she didnt know she could drown. She didnt know how she ended up in the sea and where she came from. She lived because she had not died. She lived without purpose nor reason. Every now and then, she would be puzzled by how she ended up in the waters, and what she is doing there.

One day the waters turned rough. The girl became scared. She realized she could drown. She realized she could die. Something in her told her she did not want to die. As she was fighting to stay afloat, an anchor was thrown to her. The girl could not see clearly where the anchor came from, as she was too frantic to notice. Out of desperation, she held on tight to the anchor. Very tightly. And she felt a little safer. The anchor slowly led her to a ship.

As she approached the ship, she saw other people pulling her up with the anchor. I never knew there is such a place, where people are not wet in the waters. People are dry and do not need to struggle to stay afloat. They looked like they stayed in the ship.

As she was carried to the ship, she sat down at the deck. Someone brought her a towel to dry herself. As the girl sat, she shivered. She was still a little cold, and the drowning experience still haunted her a little. But she knew now that she is safe. She is not too sure what the place is, but she knows that she does not want to go back to the waters again. Never. Even if the waters ever look safer and is not stormy, she is determined in her heart that she would never want to leave this ship. Never.

As she sat at the deck pondering all these, she saw some other people who were at the edge of the ship, looking at the waters. They looked like they want to go to the waters. The girl thought they were silly. She also saw some people in the waters swimming near the ship. Someone told her that these people used to stay at the ship, but chose to jump out of it to swim in the waters. They thought the waters would be fun. They thought they would always stay close enough to the ship, and that they would be safe. They thought that when the storm comes, they would have time to hold on to an anchor and jump back onto the ship. The girl thought these people are silly. They did not know how blessed they have been to be in the ship all these while. The girl felt that these people has never known storms in their lives. She tried to speak to one or two who are at the edge longing to jump into the waters. She tried to tell them it would be dangerous.

Then, the girl got to know more people in the ship. She realised that the ship must be very huge. She knew she would have plenty of time to explore. She got to know people who carry great smiles on their faces. Many are eager to show her around the ship. Somehow, it seemed like theres no need to bother too much with those people who wanted to jump back into the waters. At least not for the time being. I can spend my time exploring the ship first, the girl thought. Anyway, others were eager to show her around.

Beautiful pictures and great promises filled the walls of the ship. There were pictures of a very beautiful land. It was a land where the floor was made of gold, and places built of beautiful jewels. Promises in the forms of sentences and verses were also there. Someone told the girl that these were written by the Captain of the ship. The Captain would be bringing everyone on the ship to the beautiful land he owns. And the pictures were there so that he could show people on the ship where he would bringing them to. The verses are his assurance to the people that it is a safe and loving place. That he is a good man. The girl looked and looked. Initially she wanted to looked at all the pictures and verses which were there, but after some time she got a little tired. She knew she would have all the time to explore.

The girl saw enough pictures to know that the ship will eventually reach a land. A land which she could never imagine cause she has been living in the sea for as long as she remembered. She knew that this land would be good and safe and beautiful. She knew that the pictures are only a glimpse of the beauty of what would be there. Somehow she trust the Captain and His words, even though she has not met him in person. She trust him because the ship, with the anchor, and the people who pulled her up, altogether saved her. It must be the Captain who initiated all these. She knew that when they all reached the land, there would be no need to explore the ship anymore. There will be too many things in the new land which she could explore. The girl started looking forward to reaching the new land, and wondered why the ship is taking so long to reach there.

As she pondered, someone told her about the Captain's intentions. Somehow, whenever the girl has a question about the ship, there is always someone who would readily answer her. The person told her that the Captain is taking his time because he wants to pass by more people to save them. He wants to cover the whole sea before going to the land. The girl thought covering the whole sea is impossible. But the Captain does not seem to have this worry at all. He is sure that everyone in the ship would be provided for. He just does not want to miss out on anyone in the sea. The girl thought of how she was saved and also wished that others would be saved too. She understands why the Captain would want to save everybody, and hopes that people in the sea would not be too stubborn. The Captain usually waits for a long while for each person to come up from the sea. But when some people are really really too stubborn, the Captain will choose to move on. Everything is really up to him.

As the girl walked around, alone, she saw an anchor on the ship. She also saw a woman in the sea, very near and waving to her. She picked up the anchor, throw it to the woman, and pushed her up. The girl realized it was not too difficult to save someone. The woman was light and easy, and came up readily. The girl was happy that she could be a part in saving someone. As she was new to the ship, she left the woman to others who stayed longer in the ship, and they showed the woman around. The girl walked further and also saw a few people holding on to a rope trying to pull a fat man up. It was not easy as the man was struggling hard in the storm. He was dying and frantic and could not respond in the sanest mode. So there were many people who tried to pick him up. Some were shouting to him instructions. Some were focussing on pulling the rope up. The man was pulled up eventually. The girl realised that every person is saved in different ways. Some need more help from people in the ship, some need less help.

The girl talked to some of the people in the group which pulled the fat man up. She realised that it was the Captain who told them to go to that place of the ship at that time. The Captain knew the places where there were people who needed to be saved. and he actually told the people in the ship where to throw anchors in. Usually he would group them together to save a person. The girl began to see that the ship is more than words and pictures, but is an interesting place with many activities. She wants to explore more.

To be continued...

God's Presence

Holy Week Service. Tuesday 8pm. Crystal Tabernacle.

Felt my heart burning while praying with J earlier. “heart burning” is an understatement, but i don’t have a better description as yet. The sensation stopped when I stopped praying. I thought maybe i was bit sick or something. Sought the Bible and found the following verse from Luke 24.

After Jesus resurrected from death, He appeared to some disciples and walked and talked with them. And when the disciples' eyes were opened and they finally realized it was Jesus, He vanished from their sight.

Luke 24:32 And they said to one another, “Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?”

So people's hearts did 'burn' when they talked with God.

God assured me of His presence. He is always here with me. & He knows me. Reminder for me to seek Him.

Zoo Outing

- in remembrance of Quarterly Class Outing, to the Zoo, 29-Mar-2009 -

It was a wonderful day.

woke up feeling good. Went to church with YL. Would be going to the zoo together with p1-4 children today in the afternoon. Brought the most impt thing-to-bring -> Sunblock! Both for skin and face. Absolute must for outdoor activitiy. Told the children to bring water, money and extra clothes. But didn’t bring water myself.

CC service was normal. P5& 6 classes had their own outings today as well. So everyone is looking fwd to their own outings..

They had choir prac at 10:30. Supposed to end at 11 so that we can leave early. The children told me they sing especially fast today, cause they were all in an ‘anxious’ mode to leave church for outing. Choir teacher S had to slow them down. When it was past 11, teacher R noticed some children kept looking at their watch and wondered why the practice hadn’t ended..

Gathered at 11:15 in the same room & we briefed them on transportation arrangement, itinery, group arrangement and game. Told the children that anyone who misbehaves will get to sit at KFC with a teacher until 5pm – and miss playing with the rest. Prayed together for fun & good weather.

Thank God for the teachers and parents who drove us there. Many kids took Teacher Jn’s car. A & J were quite upset that they have to join R’s daddy’s car instead. I went with Teacher E in Js’s daddy’s car.

Altogether, 23 kids, 12 teachers, and 9 parents arrived at the zoo. The children had KFC for lunch o/s the zoo. They also helped themselves to some cakes – complimentary from R & A. Collected $ for admission tickets, bought tickets and off we went.

Children anticipated watching the white tiger, playing catching with the cheetah, & riding on ponies. None was in our itinery. 1st thing on the list is to bring them to get wet at KidsWorld.

After less than 10 metres into the zoo, the children stopped and were amazed by two monkeys on a tree. It looked like they could stare and take pictures for 10 min. Teachers went ahead of them. For a while, I felt like a tour guide who needed to chase the people to move on.

Moved on and saw more monkeys. Different species. & some saw a crocodile in the river. I didn’t see any. There was also a weird looking bat. Well, maybe it’s an animal which looked like a bat.

The 4 kids who are in my group – Kangaroo grp (Zh,X,Zn,Tm)– made sure they could see me. Thank God for Teacher Jv and Teacher Js who were there and made sure the kids were around. Pleasantly surprised by the children’s obedience.

Walked further. Saw flamingos. Saw a chimpanzee who hang and swing. A boy – i think it was Dtn – told me that the animal was really “cool”! The group stared and waited for the animal to do more “cool” actions, like swinging very fast from one place to another. The adults were not so intrigued, but rather, found joy in seeing the delight in the children. The group stayed there for quite some time.

Went to see more monkeys – this time, the monkeys were confined. The ‘Monkey’ group got an instant inspiration and sang for us! They readily stood up at a platform, and sang “Who is the Lord of the jungle?” – with actions. I am proud of them because they were spontaneous and not afraid to sing about Jesus in front of everyone and bystanders. Brought us much delight and laughter. Applause to them.

Proceeded to take tram to KidsWorld. Seemed very far on map but it was actually very near. Still, it was good that we took the tram. If we had walked, we would probably stop by at every other animal and took forever to reach KidsWorld. Saw rhinocerous – they are really huge. Saw deers. Saw tigers. Children enjoyed.

Reached KidsWorld. Saw other children taking pony rides. I think the ponies looked handsome. Zh really wanted a ride. but after some contemplation, she said, “if we take, what will the rest do?” I think she was very considerate and selfless. There were only 2 ponies and 20 over children. So she did not insist to take the pony at all.

Visited the other ponies which were in their stables. One was born 1998, and another 2003. Children commented that they were older than some of the ponies. Some wanted to touch them but their hands were not long enough to reach. Saw goats fighting. Saw something about the goats which is too disgusting to write about. Saw guinea pigs.

Gathered the children before the pool. They got ready quickly and headed for the play area. One highlight of the play area was a big cup which stores water, below which the children gather and waited for the water from the cup to splash down at intervals. The kids really loved that. I think if there were adults playing, I wont mind playing too. Haha. But there was no adult there at all.

Finally got to have lunch with some of the teachers. Had KFC. Also had Ben& Jerrys, graciously brought by L. We let the children play longer than scheduled time. Dn got totally wet even though he didn’t bring extra clothes. No one has clothes for him so he got to dry himself under the sun.

Distributed sandwiches to the children after they dressed in dry clothes. Must thank SH for arranging for the sandwiches. Some ate like they would never have enough. All looked like they enjoyed themselves. Took some time to gather everyone, and headed to watch Elephant show.

Took the tram. It was crowded at the show area. Sat on the steps. Was with Lj,X,Iy,Zr and Teacher R at the last hut. Lj watched the Elephant show before but was just as enthusiastic as the rest. She could even tell me the sequence in the show. The trained elephants reminded me that we are God’s creation and God has commanded man to dominate over animals (Genesis 1:28). I think elephants were made primarily to help men carry and transport logs, not to perform before us. But times have changed and urbanisation has changed the role of animals’ contributions in men’s lives.

Show ended. Rain poured. Thank God it didn’t rain earlier when children were playing. Thank God we were sheltered when it poured. Teacher Jn came over to the hut. I went to other huts to check on the others. Ended up at 5th hut with A, Zn, Dn. They got wet while coming back from the gents. Helped to dry them. Prayed that they wont get sick. Prayed that the rain will be lighter so we can go back. Gave the boys chocolate. They got to know one another and played. They made fun of one another. They are from different levels, diff nationalities and race, and yet after they play they become friends.

For a while, Dtn seemed to be missing. Found him shortly.

Rain did not stop but it got lighter. Headed to the exit on foot. Thank God for people who brought umbrellas. Thank God that we had rest at the shelter.

X made mayo sandwiches. I am impressed that she knows how to make them at such a young age. Helped her distribute them to the rest. In the end, Dtn was hungry and ate like half of the sandwiches. X exclaimed that she did not make this for one person but for all to share. Assured her that many besides Dtn had the sandwiches she made.

Left the zoo slightly after 5. On time. Dismissed some children to their parents. Teachers & parents sent the other children home or back to church. Everyone reached home safely. Thank God for all the teachers and parents who sent the children & teachers back.

Teacher P thanked God that He healed her in time for the outing. Yesterday she still sounded a bit sick, but today she was much better. Thank God.

Thank God for the fun-filled day.
This is my story for today. Dont know about the others.

Space

Space. A person need to have space within self to allow room for God & others. cannot be immersed with simply self & own thinking. Else cannot expand. Wont be able to grasp what there is in the world to learn and know. wont know in full what God has to offer & who God is. Need to create space to take in new things.

need to let go of existing to create space. pray in times of disquilibirum. disquilibrium occured when new things arrive & there is no more room to take it in.
Need to have paradigm shift of mindset to embrace the new. Otherwise, anything more will cause the existing cup to overflow. new liquid will mix with old, & bit of both old and new will be wasted away when cup overflows. it will be messy. Pray b4 embarking on new journey.

Question is: what to let go now. Question remains a question.
what is my disquilibrium. is there any. questions remain questions. for time being.

Reflections from Kelong Acheh

Kelong Acheh, Mersing
18th - 20th Mar, Wed - Fri

Reflections:
1. i missed the stars on the cloudless night. They were vast and spread wide across the dark sky. Very beautiful. God is great. very great.
Can you imagine that God counts the stars and calls them all by name? (Ps 147:4). & He who created heaven and the stars actually loves us much more than the stars! we who are so small. Simply stupefied.

2. While we enjoy His creation, He enjoys our worship onto Him.

3. The deep waters. Jesus told Peter not to be afraid and walk on waters. How not to be afraid? I think I dont have faith that great. Need to trust God more. & know that in Him nothing is impossible. Trust - a simple word, but always a challenge.

Visions:
1. First scene, 2 persons dressed as warriors go out to chiong. Faces looked "Kan Jiong".
Next scene, 4 or 5 persons heard command from commander, & systematically got dressed in warrior suits. There was joy in their face as they prepare. As one team, they go out to exactly where they were told to, and saved one from the enemy. seemed quite effortless cause they just needed to obey the commander who knows exactly where to fight. came back with joy.
Learning Points: There is no need to chiong. There is no need to strive. Work as a team. Listen to the Commander. Be sensitive & dont be silly and chiong for nothing.

2. Garden - for it to be fruitful, remove the weeds first.

Lessons from Red Cliff 2

1. Two are better than one. Teamwork is essential to fight a winning battle.
2. Pride comes before a fall. Must be willing to let go - of stubborn mindsets, and be able to accept new ideas (very difficult sometimes).
3. Even when outnumbered, we can win by having good strategies!
